Improving the Candidate Experience: Part 3

For the last couple of weeks, we’ve explored some recruitment process improvements that can help streamline the candidate experience, from application to hiring. The impression a candidate has of your company can be influenced at every phase; every step along the way could affect the outcome. As detailed recently on LinkedIn, “a positive candidate experience can help you convert your top-choice candidates into employees, while a poor candidate experience can cause them to drop out of your hiring process altogether.”

Let’s look at the remaining stages at which candidate experience can be improved:

9. Train your interviewers. Make sure that everyone involved in the interview process is well versed in best practices for interviews, especially if interviewing isn’t a normal part of their day-to-day responsibilities. Remember, it’s not a one-way street; candidates will also be gathering information on your organization.

10. Ask for candidate feedback whenever possible. This can be easier if you are working with an outside recruiter, as they will have built up trust and openness with each candidate. Candid feedback is crucial to improving your hiring process.

11. Make sure the onboarding process is smooth. As soon as the offer is signed, communicate early and often about all the steps leading up to the candidate’s first day and beyond. Anticipate questions and answer them in advance.

12. Welcome your new hire warmly! Make an announcement on social media, ensure they are introduced to all their team members, and that they know who can answer any questions that may come up. Then, check in often with your new hire.

“When it comes to crafting a positive candidate experience, the little things can make a big difference. These include thoughtfulness, consideration, and attention to detail. Going above and beyond a candidate’s expectations at every stage of the hiring process will ensure an exceptional candidate experience and a positive impression of your company.”
